Jakub and Dawid Kwieciński-Mycek are best-known Polish gay couple.
They first shot to international fame nearly a decade ago, when their homemade music video set to a Roxette song went viral worldwide and caught the attention of the band’s own Per Gessle. Since then, their wedding and their long fight to have their marriage recognised in their home country have been followed closely by the Polish public.
After nine years of waiting, a landmark ruling by Poland’s Supreme Administrative Court has finally paved the way for their Portuguese marriage certificate to be officially transcribed into the Polish civil registry. To celebrate this long-awaited milestone, the couple also renewed their wedding vows.
Jakub and Dawid said “I do” in Portugal in 2017. But for the next nine years, they had to fight for their marriage to be recognised in Poland. Now, at last, they can celebrate a breakthrough that means far more than a personal victory.
We got married as two boys, but our marriage is only becoming recognised in Poland now that we are men,” Jakub and Dawid said emotionally.
The couple submitted their application to have their marriage recognised in Poland shortly after their wedding in 2017, only to be turned down. They spent years challenging the refusals through the Polish administrative system and the courts. The breakthrough finally came in June 2026, when Poland’s Supreme Administrative Court ruled that the authorities must transcribe their foreign marriage certificate into the Polish civil registry.
Nine years after their wedding, their story has come full circle. Renewing their vows was their way of celebrating a moment they had waited so long to experience: having their marriage acknowledged in their own country.
For years, Jakub and Dawid have used their public profile to champion equality, acceptance and LGBTQ+ rights in Poland. Their story is not just a personal triumph, but also a symbolic milestone for the country’s LGBTQ+ community.
News of their marriage finally being recognised in Poland has already attracted more than one million views on their social media account, demonstrating the enormous public interest in their story.
