The Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) has taken a unique initiative this time for women’s empowerment. The organization has launched a driving training program for its female members to enhance their skills and ensure their freedom of mobility.
The DRU has organized this exceptional initiative with the conviction to contribute to social empowerment by increasing self-confidence through training, achieving independent mobility in their professional and personal lives, and overall skill development for female journalists.
In collaboration with the non-government development organization Pathway, forty (40) female journalists from the DRU are participating in this month-long driving training in the first phase.

The driving training for female journalists was inaugurated on Thursday (November 27) morning at the Pathway Driving School auditorium in Mirpur 13, Dhaka, by Nilima Akter, Executive Director of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA), and Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.
At this time, Md. Shahin, Executive Director of the non government development organization Pathway, Abu Saleh Akon, President of the Dhaka Reporters Unity, Mynul Hasan Sohel, General Secretary, Rozina Rozy, Women Affairs Secretary, and other leaders were present.
At the event, Nilima Akter stated that any skill development training boosts people’s self-confidence. She emphasized that journalists must play a positive role in ensuring the safety of women in public transport. She described the DRU’s initiative as timely and commendable.
