Statement by the BRICS National Committee on the Threat of U.S. Intervention in Venezuela and the Complicity of the Milei Government:
In response to the threat of U.S. military intervention in Venezuela and the position embraced by the Argentine government, the BRICS National Committee, dedicated to preserving South America as a land of peace, states:
The BRICS National Committee (CoNaB) upholds, among its foundational principles, the same principles defended by the BRICS countries:
- Unrestricted sovereignty of nation-states.
- Non-interference in the internal affairs of nation-states.
- Peaceful resolution of conflicts between states.
- Peaceful coexistence among nations with different systems of government.
- Solidarity with nation-states aggressed by foreign interventions.
- Voluntary and determined integration into the economic and social development programs proposed by nation-states.
This position of CoNaB is what compels us to express our rejection of any attempt of aggression against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
We understand an attempt of aggression to include, beyond direct military attacks on Venezuelan sovereignty, all expressions of violence and the mafia-like threats manifested in ominous military presences near Venezuela’s maritime, aerial, and land borders, as well as those registered daily in the Caribbean.
CoNaB longs for the dark times to be forever gone, times when the sovereign and popular development processes occurring in our Latin American countries were violently decapitated by imperialist interference. Today, our peoples have built a genuine and solidary consciousness that enables joint action against such aggressions.
CoNaB, which supports Argentina’s integration into the new multipolar world, expresses its full solidarity with the Venezuelan people in their struggle to maintain their sovereign dignity and calls upon all national and popular forces of our Homeland to demonstrate their support for the Homeland of Simón Bolívar.
The current government of the Argentine Republic today demanded “immediate action” from the International Criminal Court regarding Venezuela and furthermore called for the arrest of Nicolás Maduro. The Venezuelan president leads the struggle of a country subjected to permanent U.S. aggression for the sole crime of defending its sovereignty over its national heritage: the largest hydrocarbon reserves on the planet.
With this unconsulted and hostile attitude, the Argentina of the Drago Doctrine breaks with its entire historical line of respect for the self-determination of peoples and the peaceful resolution of international matters. Should the adventure to which the government of President Javier Milei, with this “Doctrina Quiroz,” is inviting escalate, Venezuela could fall victim to an invasion whose consequences will affect all of Latin America.
For this reason, CoNaB repudiates the position adopted by the national government and calls for an express declaration of solidarity from Argentine political parties and social organizations that hold Latin American unity among their founding banners, as well as from CELAC, and for the definition of a joint Latin American and Caribbean position before the UN Security Council.
